Gretchen De Soriano
Gretchen began the study of life sciences early in life with a project on Euglena, the uni-cellular organism, while in high school. She went on to study medicine at the University of Iowa, but lost heart with the way medicine was presented as an academic subject, and instead went to Japan to study Oriental Medicine. In Japan, she came under the private tutelage of the founding family of Kanpo, the Otsuka lineage. She studied Japanese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture for 8 years in Tokyo. After studying for one year in Beijing, she came to London and began working in the NHS, teaching Kanpo and working privately. In July 1997, her first class of Kanpo apprentices graduated.
